Mastering Time Management for a Healthier You

Welcome to the chaotic circus of life, where juggling work, family, your health and a social life feels like a never ending balancing act!

As a personal trainer, I've witnessed the relentless battle many clients face against their arch-nemesis: time. But fear not, I’m here to share some real life tips on conquering time and making health and fitness a non-negotiable part of your life!

Let's start by exposing the grand illusion of time. It's not that there isn't enough time; it's that we often perceive it as an elusive creature that slips through our fingers like sand. Time isn't your enemy; it's how you manage it that makes all the difference.

Here’s how we tend to manage our time (when we’re not working, parenting, commuting, caregiving, etc…):

The Netflix Black Hole: Ever found yourself saying, "I don't have time to exercise," while binging your favorite show for the fourth time this month? It's not that you lack time; you just prioritize a Stranger Things marathon over squats. Consider swapping one episode for a quick workout, and watch what happens!

The Social Media Time Warp: "I'll just check Instagram for a minute," …said no one ever. Those minutes add up to hours, and suddenly, your plans for a workout turn into a deep dive into your cousin's vacation photos. Be mindful of your scrolling habits; your body will thank you later.

Self Care Sin: Thinking that taking time for you is not okay - that you should be always giving to others. Listen, you are not a superhero; you're a human, and humans need self-care. Take time for yourself with something fitness related and watch as the benefits ripple through your entire life.

Now let’s take a look at how we can reclaim some of that time:

Scheduling for YOU: Imagine treating your gym sessions like meetings with your boss – non-negotiable. Block off time in your calendar, set reminders, and be as committed to your fitness appointments as you are to those Zoom calls. Your body deserves that level of attention.

Learn to Say "No" (Politely): Practice the lost art of politely declining invitations when they clash with your designated workout time. You wouldn't cancel a crucial work meeting for a last-minute coffee catch-up, would you? Treat your fitness appointments with the same respect.

Multi-Tasking Mastery: Who says you can't catch up on your favorite podcast while on the elliptical or practice your presentation during a brisk walk? Turn your exercise time into a productivity powerhouse, killing two birds with one dumbbell.

The reality is…the cost of a lack of time in the realm of health and fitness is more than just a number on the scale or a missed workout. It's a toll that reverberates through your physical and mental well-being, affecting various aspects of your life.

Now is the time and you can do this!
