You can overwhelm yourself with giant resolutions that feel right the week before the new year and then quickly become too much too soon, or this year can be different! You can start 2020 with an action plan that is a lot more doable.
I suggest you decide on priorities instead of resolutions. This is a lot less stressful and they are more manageable.
Declaring you want to lose weight is a resolution. Deciding you want to focus on exercising twice a week is setting a priority. Essentially, pick goals for yourself and then assign small action items to the goals that allow you to make good progress.
Here are some things to keep in mind when setting your priorities to make sure you set yourself up for success.
1. Make Your Priorities Crystal Clear
Don't just tell yourself your priority is too lose weight. Instead, break it down as far as you can - such as lose 2 pounds every 2 weeks. The more clear you can make it, the easier it will be for
you to develop action items and to begin kicking ass!
2. Keep It Small
Too much too soon fades fast and quick. You can't overhaul everything at once! You'll drive yourself crazy and feel like you're failing all the time. Work towards small goals - clean one room at a time, change one eating habit at a time, etc....
3. Track Your Progress
Keep a list on your phone, draft a spreadsheet or used an old-fashioned notepad...doesn't matter how, but track your progress so you can see how well you're doing. This will help motivate you or help you re-focus if you need too.
2020 is the time for change! Make it your year!
