Meet Jenna - She's a busy mom, wife and self employed wonder woman. I'm always in awe at her determination to make sure her daughter sees a healthy role model and how she gets her workouts in no matter what - she adapts to her daughter's nap schedule, work demands and anything else life pops up at her! I love working with Jenna - her work ethic is inspiring and also, her daughter is just as lovely as she is!
Jenna: "Before I started the Refire Fitness program, I was struggling with health issues. Joint pain and body aches at 26 years old. I had some health scares – especially after child birth and I felt like I was losing control.
My mental health felt like it was taking a hit. I didn’t feel good physically and it made me feel unworthy. I started to feel insecure about myself. I figured what’s the point in trying to make changes – I don’t have time!
When my daughter is sleeping or my husband is home, I am trying to get my work done as a self-employed new mom. As my daughter started to show signs of becoming more active, I started thinking of what I want her to see growing up. I want her to have a mom to look up to the same way I look up to my two parents. I envisioned running around and playing as she grows and I did not feel I was on the path to do that. I want to model what a healthy balanced lifestyle looks like. I don’t want her to see crash diets and unhealthy habits – I want her to see what it looks like to take care of yourself.
To say I was nervous was an understatement. Anytime I have tried to change my lifestyle, it was temporary. As soon as I hit a certain weight I would feel it was “good enough”. As a new mom, I didn’t feel I had the time to commit to taking care of myself. The online training gave me the opportunity to complete workouts whenever I had the time during the day. It gave me the tools to know where to start. Having Lisa cheer me on and check in kept me accountable for my actions – there was no getting out of it!
I thought my physical appearance would be my biggest accomplishment. It started as wanting to be a certain size to feel better, but as I started to take care of myself something happened…I realized my mental health was improving and my self esteem started to rebuild. I was filling up my own cup and as a result, I was able to show up as a better mom, wife, and person for those loved ones around me.
Growing up, it was a struggle to be active. I didn’t want to join in and move my body. After creating habits of getting my body moving, I crave it! I now know it makes me feel better and more energetic. Guilt for what I was eating has always been a struggle for me as well. I felt like if I ate the things I enjoyed, I had failed and I would give up. But guess what? I eat pizza, cheesecake, all the things! I eat it, enjoy it beyond words and move on with my life! I have now realized as long as I am eating real fresh healthy foods most of the time and watching my portions, I can eat the foods I love.
The Refire Fitness program and app are accessible no matter what you have, where you are, or where you’re at physically. I started doing my workouts in my bedroom with just me in old sweatpants and my husbands old t-shirt. To anyone thinking of starting to make a change, my biggest advice would be to start now. Not tomorrow or next week – right now. Start small – go for a walk, choose to eat something real and fresh, dance to a Wiggles song with your kids (my personal favourite haha!). You are the one in control – if I can do it, anyone can!"
